Most visitors see the Colosseum from the stands. On this tour you walk out onto the arena floor itself, a reconstructed section of the original wooden stage, for the same view the gladiators had of the crowd.
After the arena your guide takes you through the rest of the Colosseum and on into the Roman Forum, the heart of the ancient city.

Frequently asked questions
What exactly is the arena floor?
A modern reconstruction of part of the original wooden floor of the arena. You walk on it and see the Colosseum from the centre.
Does this include the underground (hypogeum)?
No. You look down into the hypogeum from the arena, but entering the underground passages is a separate tour.
Walk through the Colosseum, climb the Palatine Hill where Rome's emperors built their palaces, then descend into the Roman Forum, the centre of public life in the ancient city.
Descend through three layers of history: a 12th-century basilica, the 4th-century church beneath it, and 1st-century Roman buildings at the bottom, including a temple to the god Mithras.
A small-group visit to the excavations below San Clemente, with time in the Mithraeum and beside the underground stream you can still hear running beneath the basilica.
