Overview

A five-day loop through the best of Kerala. Drive up from Kochi into the tea-covered hills of Munnar, continue to Thekkady for spice gardens and the Periyar Tiger Reserve, then come down to Alleppey for a night on a traditional houseboat on the backwaters.

You travel by private car with a driver throughout, so you can stop wherever you like for photos, tea and snacks along the way.

Itinerary

  1. 1Day 1

    Kochi to Munnar

    Arrive in Kochi and drive about four hours into the hills, stopping at waterfalls on the way.

  2. 2Day 2

    Munnar

    Visit tea estates and the tea museum, Mattupetty Dam and Eravikulam National Park.

  3. 3Day 3

    Munnar to Thekkady

    Drive about three hours to Thekkady. Spice plantation tour and an evening cultural show.

  4. 4Day 4

    Thekkady to Alleppey

    Drive to Alleppey and board your houseboat. Cruise the backwaters with meals on board and stay overnight.

  5. 5Day 5

    Alleppey to Kochi

    Disembark after breakfast and drive about 1.5 hours to Kochi for your onward journey.

  • Eravikulam National Park usually closes for a few weeks around February to March for the Nilgiri tahr calving season.
  • Roads in the hills are winding; bring motion sickness tablets if you need them.
  • Houseboats are air-conditioned at night; power may be limited during the day.
  • October to March is the driest, most comfortable time to visit.
